Driver aids are more frequently being built into new models of cars, from integrated Satnav to devices such as parking cameras and lane assist technology, the question is with all of this technology are we becoming lazy and more unaccountable for our driving actions?

In the eyes of the law if you are using driver assistance aids such as automatic parking whilst driving and you have an accident you are still fully liable, this can concern conscientious drivers and result in them not using these applications even if they have paid to have them fitted.

There is also the argument that if you get accustomed to parking a car that has parking sensors and a camera fitted you may lose the ability to safely park a car without these features as you can become reliant on the driver aid.

The most successful driver aids tend to be those that warn the driver of hazards without actually controlling the car physically, these applications that can indicate if you are not driving in the lines of your lane, or are driving too close to the car in front can help to keep you alert whilst on a journey but again this technology can be very over cautious and often end up being turned off.

My personal opinion is that until the technology becomes more reliable it’s going to be more of a hindrance than a help.
