Many people use their garage for the storage of garden tools, power tools and other equipment and so there may be several hundreds of pounds worth of equipment in a garage that may only have a simple garage door fitted. If this sounds familiar then it may be worth looking at the security systems that are available for garages and the costs involved in getting one installed.
The first thing to do is to see whether the garage door needs replacing for a more secure one. A steel door with a quality locking system is probably the best choice and will improve the security of the garage. Some prestige cars may be at risk of being stolen and should be kept in the garage when not in use.
Getting a CCTV system installed with cameras inside and outside the garage does not improve the security, but it does act as a deterrent to would be thieves. It also provides valuable clear footage that can be used by the police to identify the perpetrator and used as evidence in any prosecution. Signage should be sited on the garage stating that the garage is kept under surveillance and hopefully this will be enough to keep the thieves at bay.
