Extras often offered by your insurance company

When you take out car insurance you will often be offered to upgrade your policy by adding in extras. These extras are usually things such as break down cover, hire car or replacement car, key cover and personal injury cover. Although many people click to add these extras without taking too much time to consider them, you really should check to see what you will actually be covered for and if a claim would incur and an excess.

Breakdown cover for example is often added in to an insurance policy for as little as £50 for the year but it may only be roadside assistance that is offered, meaning that you would still have to pay should your car need recovering home or to a garage.

Personal injury cover is often only payable in an accident that is not your fault, in which case you may be entitled to this through the other persons insurance anyway rather than having to pay extra for it yourself. Be sure to shop around for insurance prices and to check what is covered before you agree to any policy.
