When do you need to get your tyres balanced?

If you find that your car feels a bit bouncy when you drive or you get a vibration through the steering wheel it may mean that your tyres are not balanced correctly.

Weights (little black or grey squares are attached to the inside rim of your wheel to make the wheels the same weight. A balanced wheel results in smooth driving on the road and helps to maintain the longevity of your car’s tires and suspension.

Most garages will balance your wheels when you have new tyres fitted but you can ask for this to be done at any time. Weights can fall off wheels so it is worth getting them checked every six months of so. The wheels will be removed from the car and put on to a special machine that spins them round and bring out the unbalanced weight in the tire to the outer edge. The mechanic at the garage will then put weights on the opposite side to balance the wheel out. This needs to be done on all four wheels.

If your wheels are not aligned correctly or imbalanced then this will result in an uncomfortable ride and also will cost you money in the long run as you may have to fork out for new tyres.
