They are definitely heavier but that’s what makes them stronger and more durable than alloys. They’re not designed to be light and they’re less likely to bend and crack than modern alloys. They may not be as pleasing on the eye, and that’s why they tend to be covered with wheel covers or hub caps but they are strong and reliable.

If you’re going for outright style then an alloy may be the better option, but if you’re looking for strength, fewer cracks and all round sturdiness; then the steel wheel is a good choice.
