Making your car more secure

With car theft on the increase it’s important to realise that although it’s impossible to fully prevent criminal damage to your car you can discourage thieves by following some simple steps.

Most car thieves are opportunists who will walk around looking into cars to see if there are any valuables on display so the first most obvious step would be to ensure that where possible valuables aren’t left in the vehicle and any that are left in there are not left on display.

Ensure that when you leave the car (even just to nip back into the house) you close all the windows doors and sunroof. Most new cars are now extremely difficult for a thief to steal without the keys which has resulted in a rise of people breaking in to a house stealing the keys and driving off in the car without causing any damage to the vehicle. To avoid this always ensure that your keys are not left by the door or in an obvious place, especially not left in the lock of your door as they can easily be fished through a cat flap or even your letterbox.

Always be vigilant and check every time you leave the car that it’s locked and left secure with no valuables on display, don’t make it easy for them!
