The Problem with a Blown Head Gasket

A blown head gasket is probably one of the last things you would want to hear from a mechanic but it does happen and it requires a costly repair. This often means that you have to make the decision between paying and keeping your car or calling it a day and scrapping your vehicle.

Overheating is one of the main causes of a blown head gasket and if the structure of the gasket has warped from overheating you could be looking at a £500 repair. This may be a no brainer for some people especially if their vehicle is relatively new, but some see it as a sign of the car being ‘on its way out’.

It must be said though that head gaskets can go for any reason and it doesn’t always matter on the age of the vehicle or manufacturer and model.
