If you have finally had a few days of some nice warm weather, you may have decided to put the air con on in your car only to find that the air is no colder than normal. This can be caused by a number of things but often is either that the gas needs topping up or that there is a leak. Usually there is a leak somewhere if there is no gas left in the system. Lots of specialist garages will be able to do a simple pressure test on the vehicle and then tell you if they think there is a leak or not. They usually won’t be able to tell you where the leak is unless they do a dye test too which is usually charged for.
You can buy a kit online that allows you to test the pressure yourself and you can also buy the air co gas and something called leak stop. Leak stop will go through the system and can plug up any small leaks that are found in the seals etc, it will not fill large leaks but often is enough to keep the aircon gas from escaping. The cost of the kit varies from sixty to a hundred pounds and there are two different types, so you will need to find out which one is compatible with your vehicle.
