Some of these issues can be picked up in a service, which will give you time to rectify them prior to the MOT. Once the car has failed the MOT, it should be repaired and retested immedialty. Sometimes the work that needs to be done will be classed as dangerous so you will not be able to drive it away. If you can drive it as the MOT has expired and the repairs required are only minor you need to check that your insurance is still valid.
