Winter is well on its way and although not many of us have had snow yet, the cold weather is definitely setting in. As we head into winter there are some checks that we should do on our vehicles and make sure that we put aside a little extra time in the morning to get the car ready before we set off. Firstly, in winter as in the summer months, you need to check that all your levels are topped up. The oil, coolant and water washer fluid are the main three that you may need to top up but the others such as power steering fluid or brake fluid may also need to be checked every few months or so. Never be tempted to drive without washer fluid as this can be very dangerous, especially in the winter. The roads are often covered with grit and grim and the salt can leave a white covering on your screen. This can very quickly restrict your view and make it dangerous to continue. IF you don’t want to carry washer fluid around you can get tablets that you drop in to water which will dissolve. These usually cost a about £2 for 4 tablets and are really easy to store.
Make sure that you also have a blanket and torch in the back of the car in case you breakdown somewhere where it is cold and dark.
