Although we have yet to see a good summer, it is never too early to start planning for the winter months. There are several ways in which you can check that your car is ready for the winter and one of the main ones is your tyres. Tyres play a huge role in the safety of a vehicle regardless of the weather but during winter when there may be ice on the roads, tyres need to have excellent grip and a good level of tread left on them. It is also vital to check that they are correctly inflated. During snowy, icy weather, slightly under inflated tyres tend to grip the road better, but always check with your mechanic as to what the pressures should be.
If your car is due a service, you may want to get this done before the winter months set in. During a service the fluid levels will be changed or topped up and the major components of the car will be checked and you will be informed of any issues. Be sure to carry a winter car pack with you at all times which should include items you may need in an emergency such as blankets, long life snacks and water as well as ice scrappers, hi vis jacket and a torch.
