If you are looking to hire a car for the first time for travel, work or for pleasure, there are some things you should consider and make sure that you check before signing a hire agreement. Reading through the hire agreement is vital and something that not everyone does. You are agreeing to the terms in it and by signing it have very little come back if you agree to something which you later disagree with.

Hire car excesses can be extremely high, even up to £2000 on some car hire policies. One way to avoid this is to buy an excess waiver. You can buy this online for a few pounds per day or most hire companies will offer it you when you place your booking. If you do take it out through the hire company you may be charged a lot more, often up to £20 per day.

It is important to check the fuel policy as some companies run a full to empty policy, meaning you pick the car up full of fuel and return it empty. You will be charged for the fuel upon hiring the vehicle. If you are not going to use a full tank of fuel then you may ask if you can return it with the same amount of fuel in as when you hired it.
